Letter from the Library
Merry Christmas everyone! You actually did it – the presents are (mostly) wrapped and family is on the way or already here. I want to take the time to wish all of you a joyful and merry Christmas season, filled with family of all kinds and as much rest as you can get. I hope the next few days are filled with peace, even if the holidays have been hard for you this year.
If you find yourself in the lull between Christmas and New Year’s wanting something to do, please join us on December 30 for Game Day! We’re going to have chess, checkers, dominos, MANY decks of cards, a few board games, and some lovely snacks donated by DPT Physical Therapy. The Comanche Chamber of Commerce Junior Board will also be joining us for a Pie in the Face fundraiser that I’m personally going to get in on. I’m so excited to see people gathering in the library and I hope I get to jump into some of our games.
I also want to remind all of our parents of three to six year olds that we have a PJ Party coming up as our first 2026 event! Join us on January 8 at 5pm for a sleepover storytime, crafts, snacks, and cartoons. We’ll be showing All’s Fair at the Fair and A Car-Tune Portrait and will have popcorn and water for everyone. Stuffed animals will be able to stay at the library overnight, and staff will be sure to document EVERYTHING that they get up to and share that story on our Facebook page. Stuffed animals can be picked up on Friday, January 9.
On a more personal note – I want to thank you all for welcoming me home with open arms and letting me jump in headfirst. When I started at the library in October, I was coming from an incredibly stressful, toxic job in DC. Many of you probably know this, but I worked at a think tank studying the war in Ukraine for two and a half years. It felt about as far from a part-time job at the library someone could get, and as much as I loved the work, it was really hard emotionally and very demanding. I told myself if I lived through the holidays and we pulled off our library events, then I would have made it. I could pat myself on the back for having escaped my terrible job and kickback and enjoy my newfound freedom. Of course, I couldn’t have anticipated how working at the library that I went to my entire childhood would remind me why Comanche is so special.
It’s because of all of you – our fabulous staff, our faithful patrons, our inspiring young people, our generous foundation board and ACCL members, and our wider community that is growing and changing in the best ways. It has been such a joy to see familiar faces and meet new people at the library, and I hope to see all of you more and more next year. 2026 is going to be a big year for the library – with more events and starting construction on our renovation and expansion project, and I hope you’ll be right alongside us. We’re finalizing our Spring 2026 events, and I can’t wait to share what we have planned for our community. Suffice to say, there will be very little kicking back in 2026!
